Gubur Dhaura means red ochre ground in the Ngunnawal language. This park in the middle of the new northern suburbs was the site for collection of ochre, there is also evidence of the manufacture of stone tools. Europeans settled in the area in the mid 1800's. After the establishment of Canberra farming continued under the leasehold system until the end of the 20th century. The surrounding streets were built in 2005 and the park, with paths and interpretive signs, was opened in 2011.
