One of the early properties of the region was Duntroon, settled by Robert Campbell in the 1830's. The floodplains of the Molonglo River were ideal for cattle grazing and on a nearby hillside a dairy was built. A constant cool temperature was achieved by thick stone walls, a spring channeled through the building and a seepage well almost three and a half metres deep creating a cool air sink. The building was restored in the 1970's. I love how you can find these gems of the region's early European history, sitting in a grassy patch overrun with rabbits, just a few miles from the city centre.
