Off to the Show Again

Last weekend we braved the rain and visited the annual agricultural show. What don't you want to realise on a rainy day right after you've paid and gone through the gate? That you've got a hole in the sole of your boot. The rest of the morning was spent being even more careful than usual to avoid cowpats, as well as all the puddles of course. And then the sun came out long enough while we were watching the campdrafting competition in the main arena to give me a touch of sunburn.

In campdrafting the rider has to cut out one of the cattle in a yard and guide it through a figure eight and out a "gate" within a time limit. It seems the sport developed in Queensland around the late 19th century, but it was new to our Show this year. I hope it becomes a regular event, I really enjoyed it.

We didn't go down Sideshow Alley, but there were Kewpie dolls for sale in one of the exhibition halls which brought back childhood memories of Laughing Clowns and fairy floss.

We checked out the produce and arts and crafts halls.

We caught the end of the morning session of the DockDogs competition. This is a fairly new sport where dogs chase a ball into a pool, and it was included in the show for the first time this year.

A real working bullock team, one of a few still working in Australia, made an appearance.

On the way out we had a look at the animals, finishing of course with our favourites, the alpacas.
