We happened to be in the area and I was longing to see the Visitors Centre, which had been closed last time, so we made another quick visit to the Arboretum.
The building is amazing, with great views over the site and towards the city centre. The stonework around it is so beautiful. It's bluestone (basalt) from Wee Jasper, a small village northwest of Canberra.
Beside it is the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection. Penjing is the Chinese form of miniature landscapes.
The Discovery Garden is an education facility that displays some of the plants which can be grown in a water efficient garden and hosts regular talks and workshops.
