Two days ago it was snowing. Well, the rain was floating and it was certainly enough to get the local media excited. Today was almost like spring. So, feeling sluggish and determined to get back into healthy habits I decided the Botanic Gardens was a good choice for an energetic walk. I also hoped that there would be some opportunities to take photos of wattle in bloom but there weren't a whole lot in full bloom yet.
At first the birds didn't seem very cooperative either, a few darted around but didn't hold still long enough. But then we found a tree with Bronzewing Pigeons foraging in the mulch and King Parrots feeding in the branches. The Bronzewings' wings have a beautiful sheen when the light catches them and the King Parrots acrobatic antics are always entertaining.
Returning to the car park we passed the cafe where we were thrilled to spot kookaburras in two of the nearby gum trees, perhaps attracted by the aroma of grilling meat.
So mission accomplished, a good long walk and some photos of birds I don't see very often, especially the kookaburras.
