Plant Fair

The Australian Open Garden Scheme holds regular plant fairs at various interesting venues. This weekend there was one at the historic homestead Lanyon on the southern outskirts of Canberra.

I was surprised to see tour buses from interstate.
This one was already loading up so I was glad we'd decided to come on the Saturday.

The homestead dates from the 1850's.

While the house and surrounds are now a museum the rest of the property is still a working farm.

The plant fair was held in the front garden.

We then wandered around the rest of the gardens.
The colours of this conifer caught my eye.

There's a large vegetable garden.

And an orchard beyond it.

With views of the hills and the Brindabella Mountains in the distance.

The Murrumbidgee River, still high after the floods, could be seen too. (The photo makes it look closer than it is.)

It's the sort of place where you can really appreciate the beauty of autumn.
