Weston Park

Here's one I prepared earlier and forgot about! A week or so ago we called in at the nurseries at Weston Park in Yarralumla and being autumn we wandered down past the old cottage, now a cafe and gallery, to check out the English Garden. This area was planted out with shade-loving exotics in the 1960's by the assistant manager of the government nursery, J W Moore, around a group of established trees, I assume part of the experimental plantings carried out by Thomas Weston in Canberra's early years to find out what trees would be suitable for the new city. It was looking a little bedraggled and abandoned during the drought but there are signs of some tidying up and of course all the recent rain has helped. The surrounds of the cottage have had a makeover too. I love this part of Canberra.

What a sweet place. I have dreams of owning a cozy cottage like this... some day. Trees are so hard to come by where I live and I miss that. The shade canopies in your photos are very pretty. Happy Easter!
