National Gallery Sculpture Garden

Noticing how lovely the garden at the National Gallery was looking on the way home from the arboretum a few days ago, I just had to come back for a more leisurely walk around. The wattle and hardenbergia are gorgeous at the moment, and the tree canopy is full of birdsong.

Oh, I did say it's a sculpture garden.

I love how the landscaping has provided not only a lovely place to stroll for visitors but a wonderful bird habitat as well.

The gardens lead down to the foreshore of the lake, where the Manchurian pears were putting on their magnificent spring display (they also look beautiful in autumn).

On an island near the opposite shore sits the Carillon, a gift from the UK on the occasion of Canberra's 50th birthday, and its bells can clearly be heard while wandering through the gallery gardens.

In the distance you can just see Blundells Cottage, a workers cottage built long before anyone imaged the capital city would be built here.

Hi Mac
You keep giving me "Trips down Memory Lane".
Lovely shots. One of my most favourite places in Canberra.
My daughter used love riding her little bike (slowly) past the Flugleman Sculpture - to watch her reflected shape change.
Cheers
Denis

Heehee, it's good fun, if I stand in the right spot I'm tall and thin.
